Gary is a NY based film and advertising producer and a tech entrepreneur. He started his career in the mailroom of McCann San Francisco and worked his way up to broadcast producer. A move to New York brought him to creative powerhouse Wieden+Kennedy, where he quickly rose to the role of Head of Production.
As WKNY’s HOP he oversaw all TV and interactive work while managing the broadcast and interactive production departments, business affairs, and the post production facility, Joint Editorial. He was also responsible for the NY work for W+K Entertainment, including writing film treatments, shooting TV pilots, and producing music videos, TV and feature documentaries.
His interest in creating longer form entertainment led to a job at Tribeca Enterprises as EVP, Content Development and Production. While at Tribeca Gary launched Tribeca Digital Studios, produced short narrative and documentary films, a web-series, a three part 22 min docu-series, and the Emmy Award winning feature documentary We Could Be King.
As a tech curious storyteller, Gary began developing ideas for new ways to use mobile video. Recognizing how Japanese haiku poetry succinctly captures a moment raised the question, "what would a video haiku look like?" The answer was found in three short video segments connected by a line of text that became Hykoo.
Hykoo was spun out of Tribeca and Interlude to enable anyone with a mobile phone to create a structured video that delivers a clear point of view. With a successful launch at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, Hykoo quickly spread to over 112 countries. Gary is currently the Founder and CEO.
